It is written in Isaiah 55 verse 9: For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

My Dear Friend, more often as mortals, we tend to be attracted to big things, forgetting that not all that glitters are gold.

Very easily in our societies, the affluent, the highly placed people get noticed and given attention without much struggle.

But God is no respecter of persons. Riches do not make a man special before God. Beauty is not a criteria before God.

Little drops of water they say make a large ocean. God is interested in details, He is moved by small matters that do not matter to most people. His thoughts are higher than the thoughts of the best of humanity.

Let us consider the story of the widow in Mark 12 vs 41-44:And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And He called unto Him His disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Against the words of the scriptures, which encourage the society to take care of widows, some cultures treat widow as persons of neglect, viewed with pity, and subjected to rejection. In some cultures, widows are treated as a property of the husband’s family. There are even instances where widows were/are wrongly accused for the death of their loved one-the husband.

The widow in our reference passage was stated to be poor. Our Lord Jesus Christ quietly sat in the temple watching everyone as they dropped their, permit me to say, offerings and tithe.

On that occasion, rich people dropped big money but the widow dropped Two Mites, this must have been the smallest denomination. It was her last money but she did not care about the next moment, she gave all her money, she emptied her purse to the house of the Lord.

By human standard, she gave the least, after-all the bible says she was poor.

But the judgement of the crowd did not matter, Our Lord Jesus declared the widow as the biggest contributor, what an honour coming from the Super Judge.

Dear Friend, the widow gave sacrificially. Her giving came with a cost, her life savings are gone. It really has to do with her motive, it really has to do with her heart.

Though poor but she had a noble heart, she made no noise yet she gave big by God’s standard. Of a truth, God sees our hearts, God is interested in our thoughts.

There are lessons waiting to be learnt, waiting to be deployed:

  • Let your thoughts about yourself be positive.
  • Let your heart be right with God.
  • Let your heart think positive about others.
  • Be determined to silently make someone happy without any expectation for any reward. The returns therein are magnificent.
  • Always remember Philippians 4 vs 8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

May Jehovah God make our hearts to be noble in all situations in Jesus name.
